This is such a heartwarming true story that demonstrates that sometimes going in a certain direction just doesn’t happen to end up being the right fit for someone and that it’s totally cool that it’s not the right fit for someone. ⚖️
A good theme to remember in life! 💯
Thank you for sharing this inspiring story with us readers, and I’m glad that Quail and the handler are doing well! :)
Thank you so much. I think you nailed the lesson I was hoping people would take away. Quail wasn't a failure. He just wasn't the right dog for that job. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.
This was such a lovely reminder that not every dog has to be exceptional at one specific job to have value. I’m so glad Quail found the life that suited him. Thank you for sharing, loved the perspective!
It is interesting. My guess is Quail was only trained in a very specific environment… the same building, fields, and training areas every day. Once he was taken somewhere unfamiliar, he just couldn't connect the dots. I've seen that happen a few times over the years. A dog can look great in one environment but struggle when you change the scenery.
Loved this sweet story! Reading your articles day by day is making my fear of dogs less. I was bitten by a rabid dog I even saw my own skin torn around when I was 10 years old. Then, my tooth cracked when another dog chased me and I fell onto the road. So every time I see a dog after that, I can hear my heart beat.
And your articles make me feel like I don't need to fear them anymore day by day🤍
Thank you for sharing that with me. After what you've been through, your fear makes complete sense. It honestly means a lot to know my stories are helping, even if it's just a little bit at a time. Wishing you nothing but good experiences with dogs from here on out. 🤍
Of course, not everyone can be a K9 Vault instructor like Quil. Dino is both a K9 Vault expert and a writer on the Substack platform. Congratulations Dino... Quail was great.👍
That is WILD Mr. Dino! Great story
Thank you, Jackson!

Interesting how Quail made it all the way up to the certification process. I wonder how that happened? Good story Dino

Wow, so truly, most dogs can not be police dogs or working Military dogs, despite having the “right” breed for the job. Fascinating.
Correct. We do a lot of testing on the dogs to make sure they are good candidates.

Thankuuu dino🤍
I like that every story of yours begins with the year it happened; it gives them such a unique vibe that I can't help but notice it
Quail’s handler was great as well as the dog

I like the overall message that not everyone is good at a certain thing. You have to find what is best for you.
